Aegon Captain's Match Report

Sunday 10th April Home v Frampton Tennis

On a blustery but otherwise pleasant afternoon, Bredon LTC made their debut in the Aegon Team Tennis Tournament against Frampton Tennis. After 4 close singles matches, the opening session ended up 4-4 with nothing splitting the teams. However, in the second session doubles Bredon LTC gained an edge when Dan Sutherland & Chris Richardson won their match 6-4, 6-4 and Andy Gray and Matthew Cartwright edged a tense, quality match 7-6, 7-5 to give Bredon LTC a 8-4 winning start.

Thanks to those (including Matthew's wife and 4 month old son) who turned up to support the team. Next Match is home to Cirencester on 24th April

Aegon Captain's Match Report

Sunday 24th April v Cirencester Tennis

On a good afternoon for tennis, Bredon entertained a strong and experienced Cirencester Team in the second match of the Aegon series Team Tennis. Cirencester started strongly winning the singles by 3 rubbers to 1, but it could have easily been level as Matthew Cartwright lost a championship tie-breaker in the 3rd rubber. Cirencester secured the win after closing out the first doubles match and Dan Sutherland and Rob Ralph lost a tight second match in a championship tie break. The result could have easily been a draw and requiring a sudden-death shoot out but it wasn't to be.

Aegon Captain's Match Report

Sunday 08th May v East Glos Tennis

On glorious sunny afternoon in Cheltenham, Bredon contested the final Aegon match of the series against a strong East Glos Team. Some of the tennis on show was as hot as the conditions and although the team lost each game, the matches were a lot closer than the score suggests. Martin Sime lost narrowly in the top match, which turned into an epic encounter enjoyed by all the team with a high standard of tennis on display. The doubles had two incredibly close battles, again with some superb tennis on display. Martin & Dan were edged in a tight game 7-5 6-4, whilst Rob & Matt pushed their opponents all the way and lost a close championship tie break 10-8 (3-6 6-3 8-10)

Captains Thoughts

Overall the Aegon Team Tennis was successful and the team was competitive in each match and will come back in 2017 stronger and wiser from this years campaign. My thanks goes to each member of the squad who played and/or watched and members of the club who turned up to support the team. We ended with a Played 3, Won 1, Lost 2 record, which on another day could have been slightly different. The skills and ability of the team has increased during the competition as we played against players from the Premier League and Division 1 so this should benefit the teams as the Summer League gets under way.
